OVERVIEW/DESCRIPTION

Anchor 1
Description

I plan on improving and redesigning Southern Utah University’s College of Science and Engineering (COSE) recruitment materials.  These recruiting materials consist of rack cards, brochures, and talking points belonging to each department of the COSE.  These talking points are for the Presidential Ambassadors on campus.  In order to complete these print designs I have scheduled six hours a week to work on this project.  I will be completing these hours through the COSE Leadership Board.  I hope through this project to develop skills that are necessary to be successful in the field of graphic design.  These skills include elements of typography, functionality, and design.  At the conclusion of my EDGE project I will have a physical and an electronic portfolio of the designs I have completed, and the process I went through to reach my final product.  I plan on using the portfolio I create as part of my professional portfolio.   I will be sending my professional portfolio to businesses when applying for graphic design positions after graduation.  This unified print design project will help set me apart from other students in my major.

Larger
Purpose

The larger purpose behind my edge project is to build a professional graphic design portfolio to present for job interviews and clientele.  The more opportunities I have to work and design print products for a specific audience, purpose, and affiliation the more prepared I will be to do the same tasks in the future.  Since the end large goal is to own a small business specializing in graphic design, public relations and marketing, Gaining experience early in essential.  Right now I am contacted by professors and departments in the COSE to design print products with specific purposes in mind, while also redesigning all recruiting materials

Goal

For my EDGE Project, I will redesign Southern Utah University’s, College of Science and Engineering recruiting print materials. These Materials Include: rack cards, brochures, talking point cards, and flyers.

Desired Outcomes
  1. When I complete my edge project I will have developed a strong design portfolio to present at job interviews and to clients.

  2. When I complete my edge project I will have learned important skills that will help me better meet a client’s parameters.

  3. When I have completed my edge project I will have improved the quality and design of Southern Utah University’s College of Science and Engineering recruitment materials.

Deliverables

My deliverable I will be a physical and electronic portfolio of each rack card, brochure, talking point card, or other recruitment materials I create.  The portfolio will also include the exploration process I went through for my designs, the problems and solutions I run into throughout the project and a brief reflection of the design process and the overall project.

Differentiation

This project will help me stand out from other people in my field because it will show my ability as a graphic designer to create a whole line of different print products that correlate together in both design and purpose.  I will demonstrate that I can effectively design print products that are both pleasing to the eye and functional. Developing these skills and composing a portfolio through this project will help me stand out from other graphic designers
