She walks through the door and the atmosphere in the room sparks to life. All attention is turned to her. Standing at five foot three inches tall she shouldn't command the attention of the room like she does, but its not her appearance that demands it, but her presence. She with a confidence and a surety that she is important, that she is beautiful with out anyone having to reassure her. Her long chocolate brown hair falls to the center of her back and swings back and forth as she walks. Her legs elongated by her stylish yet affordable high heels. She loves her heels, the aura of authority they give her as they click down the hall leading to her desk in the back of the office.
From her description you may expect a strict no nonsense boss coming or returning to work, but in reality its not fear and intimidation that demand your attention but awe and mystery. No one REALLY knows who she is. Intelligent and creative she has taken the career world by storm. As the director of her own marketing, public relation, and graphic/web design firm specializing in servicing local small businesses. She has carved her own place in the world.
She may be in charge but she is collaborative and supportive of the other creative minds she employs. She leads with understanding, she gives directives, delegates and works along her employees not above them. The success of the firm is not due to her alone but the collaboration of the entire staff. No ones input and opinion goes validated and considered. She runs the company as a team leader and treats each and every employee as though they are and integral part of the firm, that without them success would not be possible. The company is admired for its ability to run like a well oiled machine from the outside and inside with what seems like little to no difficulty.
It hasn't always been easy, life hasn't just been handed to her on a silver platter, she has had to work and clam her way to where she is now. Support and understanding have not always felt like they were pillars in her life. Her decision to go into her career and her talent have been tested and questioned at almost every turn. Being the butt of jokes for years has strengthened her and has only increased her dedication and stubbornness. Self esteem has been the hardest thing to gain and hold onto throughout her journey and it is something she clings onto each and everyday. Her confidence has been earned but her humility never compromised. She did it, she overcame the odds stacked against her. Through all her struggles she pushed through to be where she is now, and she will continue to do the things no one thought she could do.
We all wish we were someone else, and the description above is of the women I want to become someday. Life is anything but easy and the traits listed above are all attributes I long to obtain and develop. I will get there one day. I may not be there now, but I can do it. I have to remind myself day to day that life does get better, that I can change my life and the life others. Day by day, dream to dream and wish on wish I will achieve what I want to and so can you. One of my favorite movies claims that there are two types of people in the world. Those who are follow the "rule" and those who are the "exception to the rule". We have all got to believe that we are the "exception to the rule", better yet success and accomplishments are not dictated by a set of rules but by strength, dedication, and hard work. You and I can beat the odds and become the people we want be.
